Edgar Street Towers Reconnect Lower Manhattan

IwamotoScott‘s design for the Edgar Street Towers in Lower Manhattan responds to its urban context and establishes a historical vision for a new hybrid of architecture, infrastructure and public space. The towers would reconnect Greenwich and Washington streets, acting as an east-west public way aligned with the primary north Manhattan street grid which is directly on the 5th Avenue axis.

Referring to the “groundscraper”–a sprawling, territorial megastructure initiated, in a sense, when Le Corbusier felled his skyscraper project at Chandigarh (what would become the Secretariat offices) and toppled it onto the ground bed below, thereby exchanging excessive heights for surface coverage –Charles Jencks called the typological model a “skyscraper which has met a ‘fate worse than death.’”

Casa Son Vida - Mallorca, Spain

This may not be your idea of a home but it is bold and fun, and it has certainly attracted wide media attention. The 8,500 square-foot Casa Son Vida is a cooperation between three powerhouses: Luxury residential developer Cosmopolitan Estates, eclectic Dutch designer and founder of Mooi, Marcel Wanders,, and award-winning Los Angeles, Switzerland and Hong Kong-based tecARCHITECTURE.

The Highlight Towers Project

The project consists of two towers that are shifted against each other and two base buildings. The base buildings consist of a four-star design hotel at the north and an office building at the south, which are separated from the towers.
