Since 2005, a storm has been brewing in the music world. At this time Akwylah was in a group but a solo career was calling. “The hustle don’t stop for nothing, ya’ digg!” So he left some folks behind (“I sacrificed some friendships.”) and ended up in Hidden Treasures Magazine.  “The hot chicks ya’ll feature… I was like dam it’s an honor to be featured in HTM.” Actually its more our honor. “HTM is a good look. For me to have your magazine representing my music is a great opportunity to be a part of entertaining your readers by telling my story.”

Akbar Fareed Muhammad’s music is “action packed, high energy, mellow, dramatic, artsy street music with a cinematic vibe.”  “Listening to my music is like going to the movies; a blockbuster ya’ know,” says an energetic Akbar. His stage name is Akwylah, an interesting name indeed. “It’s a name given me by super producer Vada Nobles and songwriter Rasheem Pugh,” he explains. “They are the cats behind the music of Lauren Hill’s ‘Miseducation of Lauren Hill.”

In 2010… “My first single was released,”says Akbar of his accomplishments this year, “I was featured on Urban Daily which is a Radio Onecompany and [I] dropped a mixtape.” This progress will not stop for the North Jersey emcee. “Next year we’re working on expanding my fan base, dropping a new video, a promotional tour and features with other artists.” In this musical world a signature sound is a must. “My music is different from the competition because I understand that I can anything I want to say in the name of art and free speech. I focus on shocking ideas,” he says. “When you hear Akwylah, you’re hearing a true writer of Hip-Hop Lyrics.”

Akwylah has performed at The Coffee Cave, The Spot and the Green Room. “When I’m on stage its like being on top of the world,” he says then continues, “and the audience is looking from every country.” When he’s on stage you can witness his music in action. “I have a single called Bob ya’Head, it’s hot in the streets right now in certain markets.” He is well aware that here is much work to be done to make it a ‘HIT!’ “The sound is there… no question asked.

As he stated earlier, he had to sacrifice some friendships in his quest to dominate the charts some day. “I sacrificed friendships in asense of some of my old friends have a negative view of the music industry,”Akwylah tells us. “Thos sacrifices are the hard ones to make because I really cared about those people but they didn’t believe in what I was doing so I had to step off and do me ya’ know!”
