You've met the Italian mob in The Godfather, now welcome to the real-life world of Irish America's own murderous clan of organized crime.

The man who has remained silent for more than a decade finally speaks, revealing the gritty true story of his life inside the infamous South Boston Irish mob led by the elusive, Machiavellian kingpin Whitey Bulger, who to this day remains on the lam as one of the world's Ten Most Wanted criminals, second only to Osama bin Laden.

Book Description:
From Publishers Weekly
Shea—who at age 20 was the drug boss for South Boston Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger and later served 12 years in federal prison for drug trafficking (yes, he was given the opportunity to rat, but, "like a man," he didn't)—gives gangster honor a bare-knuckled workout in his memoir, a slick read dripping with the underworld holy trinity of sex, drugs and violence. Born in 1965 into a "fucked up family" in South Boston, Shea traded a foundering boxing career for a gig making $4,000 a night selling cocaine and marijuana. Before long, Bulger took him under his wing and, being a tough and honorable guy, Shea ascended the ranks and had a crew working for him before he was busted and did his time. To hear Shea tell the story, he's about the only guy in South Boston who can keep his trap shut—including Bulger, who turned rat and is now in hiding—once the cuffs are on. And though his unrelenting swagger can wear thin and the writing has lackluster moments, Shea's story is a bawdy page-turner in the Iceman tradition that true crime fans will enjoy. 16 pages of b&w photos. Treasures - Photography

catmontage

There are many excellent wildlife photographers, some of whom specialize in snapping shots of specific species. There is a photographer who has a uncanny knack for capturing images of big cats like the tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard and the smaller “large cats” like the cougar, lynx and caracal. If he is a cat whisperer, wouldn’t all the kitties be clamoring to have this guy take their photo? Akishin Vyacheslav is a Russian photographer who is like a cat whisperer, traveling to zoos and reserves to snap shots that show us “how similar to human emotions” these cats can portray. Most of us have been around small domesticated cats, but using 25 of a cat whisperer’s extraordinary images, here are 10 large cats that we might not otherwise get close enough to say, “here pretty kitty kitty, smile for the camera.”

A newly risen sun brings with it previously unseen ripples in the Schukyll River. I am momentarily blinded as the sun rises to eye level. I sit perched on a balcony, in a great location; Sea Gulls display aerodynamic acrobatics that remind you of how nature set the example for all else to follow. What else would have compelled us to fly? To my right the Ben Franklin Bridge stands as a formidable ally against neighboring Camden. My friend, from Dehran Dun, India has made authentic Thai tea and I am very close to being at peace. The vibrant spirit of Independence is felt here in Historic Philadelphia unlike any place else. The marina appears as a congregation of boats in quiet intimate conversation.  Between sips of tea, I peruse the photos of Natalia Ramirez.

Deadly Closet
Designer: Rafael Morgan

Inspired by old-school magician sword trick, in which the magician enters inside a deadly box and asks his assistant to stick some swords trough his agonizing body. You can use this closet to store whatever you want, books, cds, folded clothes, shoes, etc. You can even take off some swords and use it as a wardrobe, to hang some dresses or shirts.

It is a stroke of pure genius – and will keep its residence from having heat stroke as well. Lofted living and bedroom spaces, swooping architectural swimming pool and roofline curves – everything about this place speaks to casual, resort-like luxury … which makes the semi-secret sustainable wind, solar and green-roof strategies built into the project by Guz Architects in Singapore all the more impressive.
